In an unprecedented collaboration, five major arts organizations in Baltimore and the Baltimore Area Convention & Visitors Association co-producted a major, multi-disciplinary arts festival to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Russian city of St. Petersburg. The festival was conceived by the music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Yuri Temirkanov, who is also a chief conductor and music director of the legendary St. Petersburg Philharmonic. Baltimore arts and cultural organizations helped to create a citywide celebration incorporating literary arts, film, food and other festive elements.

Baltimore’s rich cultural traditions, historic center, and unique location on the shores of the picturesque Chesapeake Bay created an unparalleled atmosphere for hosting this spectacular celebration of the arts. Over the course of more than two weeks, residents and visitors of this historic port city enjoyed an extensive cultural program that span its museums, galleries, theaters, and concert halls: from exhibitions of Fabergé masterpieces and displays of Russian avant-garde art to concerts of Russian classical music, theatrical performances, and film screenings. The mesmerizing variety of festival events offered every guest the chance to experience the magic of Russian inspiration, discover St. Petersburg anew, or relive cherished memories of the City of White Nights.
