The video program UNIVERSE IN YOUR POCKET, shown at LYUDA Gallery, is a teaser for the New York screening of video art under the same name, part of the 8th Annual International Media Art Festival, CYBERFEST. The program features works by artists from Europe, Russia, Japan, Chile, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

The video program at LYUDA, like all CYBERFEST 2014 events, reflects the festival’s overarching theme: “The Other Home.” Curator of the video art program, Victoria Ilyushkina, selected works in which artists explore the transformation of the concept of “home.” Today, thanks to rapidly evolving information technologies, anyone can easily transcend the boundaries of their “home,” making it increasingly difficult to define the coordinates of public and private spaces, or the borders between the real and virtual worlds. “Our interaction with technological gadgets, the intensity of communication, and the intrusion of mass media into daily life are changing the very structure of human thought and action. We often can’t distinguish what’s really happening from what’s fake or an informational mirage. Yet all of this now resides inside our homes, virtualizing our reality,” explains Victoria Ilyushkina in her curatorial statement.

From November 5 to 9, 2014, the educational program “Other Sounds” of the CYBERFEST international media art festival was held at the Youth Education Center of the State Hermitage Museum. Founded eight years ago in St. Petersburg, the festival has recently expanded its reach. This year, events are also being held in four other cities across the globe: Berlin, Tokyo, New York, and Moscow.

CYBERFEST 2014 brings together artistic projects under the common theme of “The Other Home.” The participating cities become “other homes” for one another, while intellectual and physical travel becomes the central intrigue of the festival. Modern communication tools allow anyone to immerse themselves in the artistic life of other cities and countries and, regardless of geographical location, become a participant in CYBERFEST events.

CYBERFEST is an annual international media art festival founded in 2007 by artists and curators Anna Frants and Marina Koldobskaya. It is organized and produced by the international media art laboratory CYLAND. Each year, CYBERFEST brings together more than 80 artists from over 20 countries. The festival features both established and emerging artists. Its global scope has included participants from Russia, the USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Finland, Italy, the Philippines, and beyond.
