On June 29 Frants Gallery Space will take part of the Night of Contemporary Art – a large-scale program of contemporary Russian art and exhibition projects.
INFO: The Association of Contemporary Art Institutions (ACAI) announces the Night of Contemporary Art that will take place on 29 June in St Petersburg, Russia. To promote contemporary art, all the ACAI venues will be opening their exhibitions on that night. The program will be started with the opening of the public art project Luzhaika in the New Holand island, which will include the works of seven famous Russian contemporary artists.
ACAI was established in 2010 to promote contemporary art in St Petersburg. It currently has 13 members: AL Gallery, Anna Nova Art Gallery, Art re.Flex Gallery, Cyland Media Art Lab, Dmitriy Semenov Gallery, Frants Gallery Space, Lazarev Gallery, Marina Gisich Gallery, Modernariat, Namegallery, Rizzordi Art Foundation, Kitchen Studio and Parazit creative union. At 22:00 and 2:00 at Frants Gallery Space in Sain-Petersburg (Rubinstein street, 23, apt. 39) CYLAND video archive curator Victoria Ilyushkina will present a program on “Jonas Mekas – Hero American avant-garde cinema” with a lecture and a rare documentary screening “Jonas in the desert” about the New York independent film director and archivist of the American experimental art films.
Film dedicated to the famous American underground filmmaker, poet and archivist of American avant-guard films- Jonas Mekas. The film was shot in 1994, director Peter Sempel (Germany). This is not a documentary in the strict sense of the word. More precisely, this is a video journey through the unique world of the Artist- an active participant of the New York Film (Cinema) Underground. In the film appears, apart from Jonas Mekas, such celebrities as Andy Warhol, Nick Cave, Al Pacino, Yoko Ono, etc. This is a great chance to look “behind the backstage” of the American film avant-guard of the last forty years.
