◆Magnetic North – Artists and the Arctic Circle◆
“Magnetic North” showcased works by over twenty artists who participated in The Arctic Circle’s expeditionary residency program between 2009 and 2012. This program brings together artists, scientists, and educators on voyages through the Arctic, particularly around the Svalbard archipelago, to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration and creative exploration of polar environments .
Among the featured artists was Anna Frants, a Russian-American new media artist and curator. She participated in The Arctic Circle residency in 2010, during which she created the interactive project Trembling Creatures. This work, inspired by her experiences in the Arctic, was included in the “Magnetic North” exhibition.
Other notable artists in the exhibition included Dutch artists Paul Segers and Arjen de Leeuw, who participated in the residency in 2011 and 2010, respectively. The exhibition provided a platform for artists to present works that reflect on the Arctic’s unique landscapes and the pressing environmental issues facing the region.
