◆Graduation Exhibition of Participants From The “School of the Young Artist” Program “Aesthetical Dissensions”◆
The title echoes Soviet dissident Andrei Sinyavsky’s idea of stylistic rather than political “disagreements” with the Bolshevik regime. The exhibition explores individual artists finding their own identity amid diverse stylistic movements, ideological doctrines, and sociocultural contexts of contemporary Russian art.
Historically, artistic movements have arisen in response or opposition—nonconformists to Soviet realism, conceptualists to metaphysical art, St. Petersburg academicians to Moscow actionists.
The show frames artistic innovation as a “negative following” of cultural tradition (drawing on Boris Groys).T he diversity of formats and approaches—enhanced by generational and gender differences—underscores the concept of “aesthetic disagreements”. The exhibition maps current conflicts—visual, moral, ideological—within the art world, as young artists articulate their own creeds and stylistic boundaries.
