◆”Finding Freedom in Russian Art, 1961–2014″ Selections from the Kolodzei Art Foundation and the Collection of Dr. Wayne F. Yakes

This exhibition presents a compelling overview of the development of nonconformist and independent art in Russia, tracing its path from an era of strict censorship to the emergence of democratic freedom. The works, created between 1961 and 2014, capture a pivotal wave in Russian alternative culture and chronicle the evolution of nonconformist movements and artistic processes.

The exhibition also highlights the remarkable diversity of art that flourished and endured over the past forty years, from the late Soviet period to contemporary Russia.
Finding Freedom is one of two exhibitions this fall that explore the historical relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union. From alliance during WWII through the Cold War and into the present, these exhibitions examine the complex interplay between art and politics.

Finding Freedom complements the exhibition Through Jewish Eyes, offering deeper insight into U.S.–Russia relations and shedding light on the state of Soviet art history during this period. The exhibition is curated by Natalia Kolodzei of the Kolodzei Art Foundation.
