Marina Koldobskaya is contemporary Russian artist, based in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Born in 1961 in Leningrad, USSRIn 1985, graduated from High School of Art and Design, n.a. V. Mukhina in Leningrad (now Academy of design n.a. A.Stiglitz), specializing in design.In mid-80es, in Perestroika time, started to participate in exhibitions as a freelance artist.

CYLAND Medialaboratory is a new artistic laboratory created by St. Petersburg branch of National Center for Contemporary Art in cooperation with St. Petersburg Arts Project Fund, New-York. Together, it is a hospitable residence for the artists of the whole world, who would like to use new technologies in an artistic way. The project is created by Anna Frants and Marina Koldobskaya.

// Some Thoughts on the Scandal That Has Rocked the Russian Art Market
Russia has more than once made its own contribution to the centuries-long tradition of art forgery. The scandal that recently erupted has, however, seriously shaken the Russian art market, still in its formative stages and thus already unstable. In a wonderful article published in the January 2006 issue of Art News , “The Scandal Sweeping Russia’s Art Market,” Konstantin Akinsha summed up the rumors that had long been circulating. Worthy of the genius of 1920s Soviet satirists Ilf and Petrov, the essence of the con was simple. Hundreds of paintings by minor European artists were acquired at western auctions. These works were slightly touched up in order to give them a Russian flavor, and they were adorned with the forged signatures of well-known Russian artists, artists whose works garner high estimates on the world art market. They were then resold for sums of money many times in excess of the price of the originals.

Among hosts of inevitable events stored for every one living, none is so mystifying in its essence than the phenonmenon of death. Most cultures have religious and philosphic systems, rituals, and certain principles of social order that facilitate the living to accept the death of their neighbors. For Ghanaians, death is by no means a mournful event, but a logical completion of one’s life’s journey.
