THE EXHIBITION “ORDINARY THINGS”

🗓️January 15 – February 14, 2020

◆The Exhibition “Ordinary Things”◆

An exhibition titled “Ordinary Things” has opened at the Gromov House of Culture, a contemporary art space in St. Petersburg. It is “…a project about the global duality of simple objects that surround us every day…” The exhibition is curated by Alexandra Ominina. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open until February 14, 2020. The exhibition features painting, sculpture, installation, and video art.

On Thursday, January 16, there will be a curator-led tour at 7:00 PM, followed by a concert by Andrey Reshetin (baroque violin) with the participation of Irina Shneerova (harpsichord) at 8:00 PM.

Curator and artist Alexandra Ominina invites visitors to see so-called “ordinary things” from a new perspective. While retaining their utilitarian function, these objects have acquired unexpected, elevated, mystical, even sacred meanings over time. This transformation inspires contemporary artists working with ready-mades.

As part of the project, Ivan Plusch’s large-scale installation “The Mechanism of Immortality” is being shown in St. Petersburg for the first time; previously it was exhibited only at the Arsenal of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Also featured is video art by Tatyana Akhmetgalieva — a rare opportunity to view the work of the renowned artist within a group exhibition.
