◆Cyland Presents a Video Exhibition by Alena Tereshko “Conditional Field”◆
An exhibition of the latest works by artist Alyona Tereshko, created in various media and addressing the genres of landscape, self-portrait, and artist’s book.
Alyona Tereshko is a traditionally trained artist and a 2013 graduate of the Monumental Painting Department at the Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design in St. Petersburg. She also studied contemporary art through the ProArte program in St. Petersburg.
Video works are broken into segments by scrolling text or divided into frames and transformed into photo documentation. A series of paintings depicting the same landscape in different scales mimics the zoom function of a camera lens. In her self-portraits created without the use of mirrors, cameras, or other technology, the artist plays with angles visible only to her own gaze—yet her identity remains “off-screen,” invisible to the viewer. In contrast, another series of painted self-portraits presents a sequence of shifting identities, as if the artist is parodying the function of Photoshop using the tools of painting.
In this exhibition, Alyona Tereshko invites us into a game of transitions across the boundaries of various media—from traditional to digital—while exploring conceptual gradations such as format limits, perspective, scale, and the interaction between volume and flat image.
