🔹Science and Life🔹
the exhibition by Elena Gubanova and Ivan Govorkov
Science and Life is the result of reflection and a logical continuation of two significant projects by the artists: Observatory, which was recognized as the best project of the 2007 ProArte festival Contemporary Art in a Traditional Museum, and Red Shift, which was presented to the public alongside the 2011 Venice Biennale at the renowned Ca’ Foscari University.
In their new project, the artists—who have personal ties to astronomy (Elena Gubanova is the daughter of renowned Russian astronomer Vadim Gubanov)—return to the themes of space, time, and personal history, creating powerful metaphors that bridge the scientific and artistic spheres.
“This is a project about personal time, which is subject to distortions and measured not so much by the rotation of celestial bodies as by the memory of the artists—one of whom grew up in the most utopian place on Earth, on the scientific grounds of the Pulkovo Main Astronomical Observatory. It is a project dedicated to the memory of our expanding Universe, carrying to us the slowed-down light of the stars.”
