THE QUEEN MARY

Frants Gallery Space takes part in

World Arts Olympus

A French-accented mime, a Peruvian fashion designer, and a Swiss sculptor—though their crafts and origins differ, this weekend they, along with dozens of artists from around the world, have gathered aboard the Queen Mary for a global artistic exchange.

Their mission: to launch a project that unites artists from diverse cultures on a shared journey, bringing their work and ideas to ports worldwide. While the Queen Mary—now permanently docked in Long Beach—won’t be the vessel for this journey, the nonprofit organization behind the initiative, Arts Olympus, has chosen the historic ship as its launch site.

The project is the vision of artist Robert Slaughter, a Long Beach native who began organizing artist gatherings in New York and beyond a decade ago. These creative meetups quickly gained popularity, fostering a community of artists eager to collaborate.

This weekend’s events feature a dynamic lineup, including Russian video art, stilt performances, puppet theater, Arabic belly dancing, and an American straw art exhibit. These performances and displays take place across the ship and are open to the public for free, with only a voluntary donation requested.

As artists from around the world converge on the Queen Mary, the Arts Olympus project takes its first steps toward a global artistic voyage—one that aims to bridge cultures through creativity and collaboration.
